Searching
for a Home
The
search for a new home will be much easier if you first focus your
search. Before you begin your search you must decide what you want
and what you don't want. The more you narrow your priorities in
a home the more you'll increase the likelihood that your agent will
find homes that more meet your true needs and desires.
First,
you decide what type of home you want. Do you need or want a typical
single-family home, a condominium or a townhouse? With a single-family
home, you have more ownership, however with more ownership comes
more responsibility. With a condominium or townhouse, you'll be
able to enjoy included services and amenities, however there will
be community costs. If a condominium or townhouse is being considered
then you should ask about any covenants associated with the property.
Covenants are agreements that outline any restriction on how the
property can be used. The pros and cons of each type of home should
be carefully considered. Also, take into consideration items such
as lot size and in-ground pools. A large lot will afford a greater
amount of privacy but will come at the cost of increased maintenance.
Similarly, an in-ground pool can be a pleasure and can be costly
and time consuming in terms of required maintenance.
Next,
there are the pros and cons involved in buying a new construction
home or a resale. A new home will decrease the need for immediate
maintenance. With a resale, you'll have the benefit of paying less
to live in an established neighborhood. In addition to deciding
what type of home you want, you must decide what type of neighborhood
appears to you best. Is a quite dead-end street high on your priorities
or do you desire to live near an easy commute to work? Investigate
the schools in the area, so you can eliminate homes in towns that
do not meet your needs.
